Theses can be found in the library’s collections in both printed and digital formats. You can read printed theses at the library premises. Newer theses are mostly available digitally.
Whether a thesis has been published openly depends on the author's permission. The University of Helsinki recommends the open publication of theses. Copying of the digital theses available on the library terminals has been prohibited due to copyright reasons.
Both printed and digital theses can be found in Helka.
You can request to read a printed thesis by making a reservation in Helka. The directions for making a request can be found on the library website. The requested theses will be delivered to the pick-up shelf on the K4 floor of Kaisa House, where they will be available for use for 4 weeks.
If a digital thesis has been published openly, you can access it remotely through Helka. If a digital thesis has not been published openly, you can see its information in Helka, but you can only read it at the library terminals available at the libraries.
You can search for a single University of Helsinki thesis in Helka with the title of the thesis or the author’s name.

Digital theses can also be searched for in Helda, University of Helsinki open repository. If you want to browse digital theses or do more advanced searches, you should use Helda.
Doctoral dissertations can be searched for in the Helka database. There's usually at least one printed copy available of the dissertations published at University of Helsinki.
Printed doctoral dissertations are not usually kept in separate collections, they're shelved among other material available for loan.
Printed copies of bachelor's theses are not usually kept in the library's collections.
Digital bachelor's theses are available from the Faculty of Theology from the year 2010 and also from the Faculty of Education. These theses can be read on the library terminals.
