Print collections

The print collections in Helsinki University Library include textbooks, fiction, basic works in various disciplines and books and journals that are in active circulation.

Printed books and journals can be found in all campus libraries. The location details and loan periods for individual books and journals can be viewed in the Helka database.

Collections in the Main Library in Kaisa House include literature in the fields of humanities, law, theology, and behavioural and social sciences.

The print collections in Meilahti Campus Library contain journals, books, dissertations and theses in medicine, dentistry, health sciences, psychology and logopedics.

Journals and series

The Meilahti Campus Library collections include around 800 printed journals and publication series in the areas of medicine and health sciences.

Books

Meilahti Campus Library houses a number of book collections:

For the textbook collection, the Library acquires all learning materials specified in the degree requirements of the Faculty of Medicine.

The general collection and reference books in medicine and health sciences are shelved according to the US National Library of Medicine (NLM) classification system.  Books on psychology and logopedics are shelved according to the UDC classification system.

The dissertation and thesis collections include Finnish doctoral dissertations in medicine and master’s theses in nursing science.

Lux Humana is a humanities special collection for the purpose of teaching, research and clinical work in medicine.

The WHO collection houses publications by the World Health Organization.

The Library also includes the following collections of old materials:

Duodecim Fennica: Finnish publications in medicine from 1733 to 1966.

Finska Läkaresällskapet’s old doctoral dissertations: Finnish dissertations from 1750 to 1940.

National Library of Medicine (NLM) classification

The Viikki Campus Library collections contain materials in biological and environmental sciences, agriculture and forestry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine.

Monographs from the Viikki Campus Library’s general collection are located on the second floor and shelved according to the UDK classification system.
