Group study facilities

The group study rooms can be reserved by the students and staff of the University of Helsinki. Unreserved group study rooms may be used by all library customers, but the person who has made the reservation always has priority. Group study rooms are available in line with the opening hours of the libraries.
Group study rooms and equipment

The library's group study rooms are equipped with a desk, chairs and, in most of the rooms, a display with a VGA or HDMI port for connecting your own laptop. The rooms do not have a fixed computer. Room listing Campus library, City Centre in the O365 calendar shows the library's group study rooms.

  • Rooms Lisp G226 (max. 6 people), Python G230 and Q G231 (max. 4 people). A separate screen on the table to which you can connect your own laptop.
  • Rooms Modula G227Neko G228 and Octave G229 (max. 5 people). No display.
  • Students of the University of Helsinki can book rooms Idris G240, Haskell G242 and Go G244 (max. 2 people) only via the tablets located next to the rooms. Rooms are equipped with a table, chairs and a whiteboard.

Meilahti Campus Library has two group study rooms on the 2nd floor at Terkko Health Hub. Room listing Campus library, Meilahti in the O365 calendar shows the library's group study rooms.

Rooms TK2.21 Heart and TK2.22 Soul  (max. 6 people). Connecting your own laptop to the display with a VGA or HDMI cable or wirelessly with VIA. Whiteboard.

In large group study rooms (6-11 people), 55' or 75' inch displays with HDMI connection are available. Audio comes through the display's speakers. Small group study rooms (2-3 people) do not have a display. Room listing Campus library, Viikki in the O365 calendar shows the library's group study rooms.

Learning Centre Aleksandria is closed for renovation from 21 June 2024.

Rules for the group study rooms

The group study rooms in the library are mainly reserved for group work. If you have made individual arrangements with the library, you can book a room for 2 hours per day for independent work. Rooms cannot be booked for public events or for teaching purposes. Reservations for group study rooms are made independently via the University's personal Office365 calendar or with the Spacent app.

You can book rooms for up to 2 hours per day. Longer bookings will be cancelled without notice. Reservations will expire half an hour after the start of the reservation period if none of the group members has arrived. Unreserved group study rooms may be used by all library customers, but the person who has made the reservation always has priority.

Please keep the group study room door closed and the facilities tidy.

How to book a group study room with Office365 Calendar
  1. Open your O365 Calendar. Click New event on the upper left corner. Type the name and of the booking and select the date and time.
  2. Go to Search for a room or location. The menu shows earlier rooms you've booked. Always select + Browse with Room Finder to see vacant rooms.
  3. Type Campus library on Building section under the Room Finder. Choose the library that you want to book a room. You can see all vacant rooms in the list.
  4. Select the desired room and click Send.
  5. The reservation is valid only after you have received en email to confirm it. Always check the email sent by the room and save it in case there is a problem with the reservation. 

Group study rooms can be reserved for maximum of 2 hours/person/day. Your reservation will be rejected if

  • it is too long (more than two hours),
  • the reservation is outside the opening hours,
  • you don't have reserving rights, or
  • if someone else has made a reservation at the same time as you.

You can cancel your reservation in your own O365 calendar.

How to book a group study room with Spacent app

The library is testing the Spacent app for booking group study rooms. Group study rooms at the Kumpula Campus Library will be added to the app at a later stage. 

Download Spacent from the App Store or Google Play. The app is free of charge. Create an account in the app with your University of Helsinki email address. Enter the six-digit login code you receive. After entering the code, you will be able to reserve group study rooms in the library. 

You can find the library's reservable group study rooms per building in the Home tab of the app under Locations for Students: 

  • Main Library Kaisa House: Fabianinkatu 30, Kaisa House 
  • Meilahti Campus Library: Haartmaninkatu 4, Terkko 
  • Viikki Campus Library: Viikinkaari 11, Info Centre 

How to make a reservation

  1. Select the library where you want to book a group study room. 

  2. Choose a time and specify the number of participants. You will then see the rooms that are available at the selected time. 

  3. Select the room you want from the list and from the page that opens, press Book. 

  4. Your reservation is ready. You can cancel your reservation from the Reservations tab. From the Reservations tab, you can see all existing and cancelled reservations. 

To make a reservation with Spacent, the app will ask you to enter your phone number. If the reservation is cancelled, you will be notified by SMS. 

NOTE! You can only book rooms free of charge if they say “In plan”.
