The departmental office as well as teaching and clinical research facilities are located on the second and third floors of the Biomedicum 2 C building, and laboratory facilities are on the second floor of Biomedicum 1. The Department cooperates closely with HUSLAB and the Poison Information Centre, and participates in expert duties related to pharmacogenetic studies and the determination of drug concentrations. It also provides consultation services for the pharmacological treatment operations conducted by HUS.
In addition to a service period at a health care centre, the specialist education programme in clinical pharmacology and pharmacotherapy includes a common core training stage (27 months) in clinical fields with a strong emphasis on pharmacological treatments, and specific training in clinical pharmacology and pharmacotherapy in the position of a specialist in training (36 months).

Each year, one to five doctoral dissertations are completed at the Department. The Department’s research is of a high international standard, as evidenced by the maximum grade received by the IndiViDrug research group in the category of research communities that represent the state-of-the-art in their field. The international evaluation of research and doctoral education in 2005–2010 was conducted by the University of Helsinki. Advanced projects are also available at the Department.
