Latin language and Roman literature

Latin language and Roman literature focuses its research on the Latin language and material written in Latin from antiquity to the modern period.

In recent years, the emphasis has been on the utilisation of digital source material and methods enabled by digitalisation. Research topics range from all aspects of Roman antiquity: literature, history, social and cultural history, including visual arts and objects. Internationally visible research has included the study of original Latin documents and Latin papyri, particularly epigraphs from Roman antiquity, where perspectives have varied between linguistic and historical, as well as research focused on Roman onomastics, or names and naming conventions, where the perspective has been based on both linguistics and cultural history. Significant international research has also been conducted on classical linguistics and its influence in the Middle Ages, along with neo-Latin literature and Latin material written in Finland.
