Come and take a peek at the University!
What is the University? What is being done there and what does everyday life at the University look like? How does the work carried out at the University affect the lives of all of us?
The guided tour takes us to the Main Building of the University of Helsinki and the new Helsinki University Museum Flame. We will see what kind of facilities the University has and what happens in them. At the same time, the tour leads us to consider the significance of the University and research at different times. The participants will learn how research has helped Finland develop into a welfare state. Touring the facilities also illustrates the turning points of the Finnish history, including the time of the autonomous Grand Duchy of Russia, the war years, the early years of independent Finland and women’s access to studies. The tour includes an engaging bingo assignment.
The guided tour is targeted at secondary and upper secondary schools. The content is suitable for all pupils regardless of their plans for future studies. However, the tour may provoke interest in university studies! Duration: 1 hour. The price of the visit for a group of at most 30 pupils is 60 euros, which includes entrance fees and the tour. If needed, the group will be divided into two. The tour can be tailored to be accessible.
Tour times during school terms are Tuesday to Friday 9.15-10.15 and 10.30-11.30.

Join us in exploring what we eat and why!
The Food for All exhibition workshop is an inspiring excursion into Finnish food then and now. Functional assignments set in the exhibition space are used to learn how research-based knowledge has guided food choices at different times.
In the workshop, the class will be divided into two groups. At first, the groups will play a memory game together, which will serve as an introduction to the themes of the exhibition. Then the groups will look for answers to questions from the exhibition related to familiar cereals, dairy products, root vegetables, fruits, berries and legumes. The pupils will also learn about the development of food recommendations. The teacher will receive in-depth material that can be used by the class after the visit to continue discussion and complete the Unelmien ruokapyramidi (‘Food Pyramid of Dreams’) exercise.
The workshop is intended for grades three to six. Duration: 45 minutes. The workshop is available in Finnish, Swedish and English. The price of the visit for a group of at most 28 pupils is 60 euros.
The workshop can be booked between 13 March and 30 May, and between 18 August and 24 October from Tuesday to Friday from 9.15 to 10.00 and from 10.30 to 11.15.
