Our research focuses on the inflammatory diseases and reproductive problems of cattle and pigs, as well as the behaviour and welfare of animals in the production environment. In addition, we study other animal species, including horses, sheep, goats and poultry as well as canine reproduction. Our research is funded by, among other parties, the EU, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Academy of Finland, Business Finland, companies and foundations.
Our researchers collaborate with the other departments of the Faculty, other faculties of the University of Helsinki, other Finnish universities and research institutes, as well as researchers from international universities and research institutes. Research collaboration in production animal medicine is nationally and internationally networked.
Helsinki One Health (HOH) is a research network that was established to support and coordinate research on the shared health issues of humans and animals at the University of Helsinki. The network focuses on the interaction between the health of animal and human populations in a rapidly changing environment. It encourages various fields and professions to work together for the resolution of new health problems that affect the whole of humankind and animal populations.
