We encourage our students to work independently, obtain a solid general knowledge base, found their learning on inquiry and practise scholarly thinking. We have a broad language programme, which includes Latin, and our students have the opportunity to take university courses at the University of Helsinki. We also value creativity and handicraft. At Norssi, students can complete general upper secondary education diplomas in visual arts, crafts and physical education.
Our school has an active upper secondary school student body organisation, which is heard for example when deciding on matters pertaining to general upper secondary school students. At Norssi, we place great importance on community spirit and student wellbeing.
The principal of the Helsinki Normal Lyceum general upper secondary school is Marja Honkaheimo.

The school’s subject teachers and guidance counsellors as well as special needs teachers are responsible for the provision of teaching at the general upper secondary school. Each upper secondary school group has its own tutor.
Contact information for school staff can be found here: Contact information.
The upper secondary school student body organisation includes all students at the Helsinki Normal Lyceum general upper secondary school. All students can vote and stand in the student body organisation elections that elect the student body organisation board at the beginning of each school year. The board makes proposals and gives reports on matters pertaining to upper secondary school students and organises various events and activities for students. The student body organisation also promotes student satisfaction by making agreements with various companies, including vending machine suppliers.

The student body organisation wants to represent and serve Norssi’s students in the best possible way. If there is anything you think the student body organisation should address or that could be improved, contact us by email or by post! You can also come talk to us in the hallway at school.
Through collaboration between school and home, the organisation of education and teaching is supported in a way that ensures the provision of instruction, guidance and support to each pupil in accordance with their developmental stage and needs. Such collaboration promotes pupils’ healthy growth and development. The participation of guardians and the opportunity for them to contribute to schoolwork and its development constitute a central part of the school’s operating culture. Educational collaboration between the school and the home enhances the wellbeing and safety of pupils, classes and the entire school community.
In school–home interaction, the Wilma system is used on a daily basis.
Parents of the pupils of the Helsinki Normal Lyceum operate an active parents’ association, with which the school collaborates. Further details on the activities of the parents’ association are available on its website: Parents’ association.
