DOI identifiers for research data

DOI (digital object identifier) is a unique and persistent identifier for digital objects or documents. DOI identifiers refer to websites on which the metadata of the relevant datasets can be found. Data Support grants DOI identifiers provided by the DataCite organisation for research data produced at the University of Helsinki.
Why obtain DOIs?

The use of DOI identifiers enables increasingly accurate monitoring of the utilisation rate of datasets and more efficient use of other metric tools. DOI identifiers make it possible to cite research data and facilitate their reuse.

You can obtain DOI identifiers by contacting the University of Helsinki Data Support: datasupport@helsinki.fi.

Costs covered by the library

As a rule, Helsinki University Library offers DOI identifiers to researchers free of charge.
