University of Helsinki Data archive

The University of Helsinki Data archive (Digital Preservation service) safeguards the preservation of digital research datasets produced at the University. Research data are preserved in Data archive in frozen form, which means that their content cannot be edited in the service.

The service is free of charge to researchers.
Safe long-term preservation

University of Helsinki Data archive is a curated service. The service ensures that the data it contains remain comprehensible and usable for decades if not centuries. Among other things, the service process assesses the technical suitability of data.

Use this REDCap form to offer your research data to Data archive.

In matters of long-term preservation, you can reach out to the University’s Data Support: datasupport@helsinki.fi.

Research data for future generations

The aim is to preserve data in Data archive using persistent and open file formats. The data in the service will be updated to new file formats alongside software updates. This will ensure that the data remain usable even for future generations.

The service is free of charge to researchers and the preservation decision is made by the faculty research committee.

In preparing data, observe the official University of Helsinki guide to preservation.

What should I choose for licence?

If a licence has already been defined for the research data or part of it, the same licence will be used for the data stored in Data archive. If the dataset does not have a licence, we recommend that you choose an appropriate option from Data archive's own licences, depending on how the dataset can be made available to other researchers. A more detailed description of Data archive's licences can be found in Zenodo.
