For current students

There are many ways for current students to engage with and benefit from our alumni during their studies at the university.

In the page below you can find a list of our alumni activities that are open to current students. Some of our activities are only available to students at certain degree levels i.e. bachelors, masters, PhD or exchange students.

Each faculty may also organise their own alumni activities which are open to current students. You can find more information about these at the bottom of this page and on each faculty's alumni webpage.

Remember, if you have graduated from a bachelor’s degree at the university, you can already join the university’s free Helsinki Alumni community, even if you are still studying your Master’s degree!

Alumni Group Mentoring Programme

What is the Alumni Group Mentoring Programme?

In the University of Helsinki Group Mentoring Programme, an alumni mentor works with an interdisciplinary group of 2–4 students (actors) for about 5 months. In addition to the support provided by the mentor, the actors receive peer support from each other.

Group mentoring begins with a joint Kick-off event for all groups where both mentors and actors receive information and support for launching group activities. Group members meet each other for the first time in this event and, during the evening, each group decides on its own meeting schedule. The groups should meet roughly once a month during the program.

Who can take part in the programme?

The programme is open to Students at all degree levels, including doctoral researchers. Recent graduates of the university (graduated in the last 12 months) can also take part.

When does the programme take place?

Students can apply to join the programme in October-November. Students and mentors are paired together in December. The programme officially begins in January and runs until May.
